A question I’m asked all of the time: is pumpkin good for pets?
The answer – a resounding YES!
Pumpkin puree – whether from a can or freshly steamed or baked – provides strong enzymes that are excellent for digestion. In addition, this gourd is a great source of both soluble and insoluble fiber, so it not only helps bulk stool but also works to push waste through the colon. Pumpkin is also rich in antioxidants including vitamin A (beta carotene) and vitamin C. Other nutrients in this superfood include vitamins B1 and B6, folate, calcium, copper, potassium, magnesium, and manganese.
Bonus!
For a pet with an upset tummy, adding a teaspoon of pumpkin per every 10 pounds of their body weight to a meal once or twice a day often relieves the issue.
